Microsoft Middle East and its employees have donated over $150,000 to the UAE Red Crescent for its relief effort for the people of Iraq. The donation will be used as part of an effort to provide basic health and nutrition requirements of people in Iraq to alleviate suffering in the aftermath of the recent war.

“We greatly appreciate the kindness and generosity shown by Microsoft,” said Juma Salem Shabat Al Khateri, Dubai branch manager of the UAERC. “The donation will be used to increase the levels of medicines and medical aid, as well as ensuring the delivery of food parcels to families throughout various locations in Iraq.”

The Red Crescent has been one of the most active charitable organisations in Iraq, having managed several major humanitarian projects in support of the Iraqi people, including the building of water desalination plants producing up to one million gallons of water a day. It is also planning to build five orphanages and a hospital for the handicapped in the troubled country.

“We decided to support the Red Crescent mainly because of its excellent record in humanitarian disaster relief,” said Mohammed Kateeb, managing director of Microsoft Middle East. “Microsoft has always been committed to the people and businesses of the countries in which it operates, and the Middle East is no exception. We hope that this donation from the company and its employees will help the Red Crescent to reach more of our Iraqi brothers and sisters in a time of great need.”
