United Business Machines (UBM) has launched a new partnership with Balsam Healthcare Corporation to sell the e-Oasis hospital management information system (HMIS) in Jordan. UBM will target the Jordanian healthcare market with the HMIS solution, the first time that an integrated solution for hospital management has been available in the Kingdom, according to Mustafa Rugibani, chairman of UBM.

“UBM has historically supported the health care sector by deploying a variety of solutions to Jordanian hospitals,” Rugibani said. “We are excited to be the first to support a complete end-to-end solution that will lead to greater access to information and better management in the sector. Today IT plays a key role in the growth of health care as hospitals are depending on advanced solutions to better serve patients with more professional services.

“Our partnership with Balsam, a well-known healthcare corporation, will enable us to further facilitate the tasks of hospitals in Jordan, which has become a regional centre for health care services. We are particularly happy with the solution as it was tailored and built according to the recommendations and the requirements of professional doctors,” he added.

The e-Oasis HMIS, which was developed by Saudi-based Balsam in conjunction with healthcare professionals, is a modular system that is suitable for hospitals of between 50 to 10,000 beds. The solution is available in both English and Arabic, an has modules for personnel & administration, patients, financial and departmental solutions. Some 57 hospitals in the Middle East, Europe and Africa have already deployed the system.

“Our goal at Balsam is to facilitate the IT requirements of hospitals, therefore we work very closely with the recommendations of experienced doctors, engineers and financial consultants to develop solutions and systems to contribute to the growth of this sector,” said Dr Saleem Bin Mahfoz, general manager of Balsam Healthcare Corporation.

“Our solutions are used throughout leading hospitals in the Arab region, Africa and Europe and see a lot of potential for growth in the Jordanian health care market. We believe that our partnership with a company of UBM’s calibre will enable us to provide our high-quality services successfully in Jordan and across the Levant,” he added.

UBM and Balsam recently held a seminar to launch the HMIS solution to the Jordanian market. UBM will install and support e-Oasis, which it hopes will help it build on its existing relationships with healthcare organisations in Jordan.
