Al Alamiah Electronics has laid down a comprehensive network infrastructure for the Islamic University in the city of Al-Madina Al-Monawara in Saudi Arabia, as part of an ambitious e-government project

The project saw Al Alamiah supply a network infrastructure literally from the ground up: from laying cables to providing a high-speed internet system and MS Exchange-based email system and providing all necessary administrative equipment and software.

“The project is an expression of the University’s keenness to keep up with the technological advances of the modern era, particularly where it concerns computer systems,” said Dr Khaled Al Hamzi, administrative, IT and computer advancement supervisor for Islamic University.

The installation of the network is the first stage in a project supervised by the IT & Computer Centre at the University. “This endeavor is a step towards preparing for the e-Government project in Al-Madina Al-Monawara, a revolutionary project which HH Prince Moqrin bin Abdul Aziz, Prince of Al-Madina Al-Monawara, is aspiring to achieve,” said Hamzi.

The network infrastructure is based on fiber optic cables capable of transmitting 1000 MB per second, which have been laid underground to connect the buildings at the University. Enhanced Cat5e cables were installed in the interior, capable of 200 MB per second data transmission. The complete network consists of 585 points, distributed across the various buildings and supported by stationary high-speed transmitters.

"We are proud of the trust the Islamic University has placed in our company's technological capabilities for executing a project of this magnitude," said Nader Amin, general manager, services and products, Al Alamiah Electronics, who is also responsible for supervising the project.
