Emirates Internet and Multimedia has announced a one month domestic broadband Internet promotion to drive up its Al Shamil subscription rate. The promotion, which will run from June 16 to July 15, will save customers up to AED 625.

Registration fee of AED 200 for ADSL connections and AED 250 for the cable registration will be waived for new subscribers. They will also get a 50% discount on the the fixed monthly fee of AED 250 for the first three months.

“The UAE currently has almost 19,000 domestic broadband subscribers and this number is growing rapidly,” said Maroua Naim, general manager, EIM. “With applications including video streaming and gaming, it is becoming more essential if users wish to use the internet to its full advantage,”

The 384kbps Al Shamil service, which is up to 10 times faster than dial-up, is a major focus for EIM going forward. As more bandwidth heavy applications are developed, the demand for the high-speed service is growing extensively.

Although EIM has launched a faster Al Shamil service in parts of Dubai and Abu Dhabi, with download speeds of 1Mbps and 2Mbps, the current promotion only extends to those customers subscribing to the 384kbps service.

Customer taking advantage of this offer will have to purchase an ADSL modem for AED 275 or a cable modem for AED 325 from Etisalat.
