Avaya has expanded its iPatch System product portfolio with the introduction of additional hardware and software for the intelligent patch cord management solution. The updated system is now able to actively monitor and troubleshoot high capacity fibre backbones.

The extended solution also enables the iPtach System’s physical layer connectivity map and alarm data to be transmitted to the network management applications.

“Avaya’s iPatch System, has taken cost and risk out of moves, adds and changes to copper cabling though easier planning, better communication with technicians and less paperwork,” says Luc Adriaenssens, director of Systimax R&D at Avaya Labs.

“Now these benefits are available when managing fibre channels as well,” he continues.

iPatch System Manager Version 3.0 provides links to network management solutions, such as HP OpenView and enabling administrators to utilise these platforms to receive alarms about the iPatch system or question the system manager, among other features.

“Intelligent patching is a simple, powerful way to improve network economics. We believe it is the way of the future and are committed to constant improvement of the iPatch System product line to give users a clear path to higher uptime and lower cost of ownership,” says Adriaenssens.

“Unlike other intelligent patching systems, iPatch System users can use industry standard copper and fibre patch cords, eliminating the cost and complexity associated with the need to use proprietary cords,” he adds.

The iPatch Systems also offers enhanced cable management features, including document consolidation points, panel-to-panel cabling and network switching equipment. Additionally, iPatch Fibre Shelves have incorporated into the solution.
