The Central Bank of Kuwait secures systems with SIM solution

CBK is implementing a secure web-based environment, to ensure the authenticity, authorisation and integrity of its business data.

The Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK) is implementing a secure web-based environment, to ensure the authenticity, authorisation, integrity and privacy of its business data communications. The Secure Identity Management (SIM) solution, which is based on Novell’s directory services technology and trusted identity provisioning processes, will be deployed by Al Faris Information Technologies.

SIM will enable CBK to safeguard access control by protecting the user profiles from interference by unauthorised personnel.

The use of Novell’s eDiectory technology will help to ease user administration headaches across multiple different systems. Previously, CBK had used manual process to create user IDs for certain key systems. However, the old system was complex, labour intensive, time consuming and costly.

CBK wanted a system that automated new account creation, allow updates and enable single sign-on for users across its IT environment.

"Having experienced Novell's reliability, scalability and security, we selected eDirectory over an alternate solution," says Hana Razzouqi, senior manager for information technology.

"We turned to Al-Faris and its partner because we knew they could deliver the identity management solution we were looking for," he adds.

The initial phase of the deployment has focused on identity provisioning and synchronisation of ID information across four key systems.

The eDirectory-based system enables CBK to get new hires up and running more quickly. When new personnel arrive, the system will automatically create an ID in the HR system, and Novell’s DirXML technology triggers updates to generate a user account and network access. Based on the user profile and rules already defined within the system, they are given access to certain information in the system.
