Fastlink, the Jordanian mobile operator, has handed a US$19 million contract to Motorola to expand its GSM and GPRS networks.

The deal, which includes hardware, software and services, will see Fastlink's network capacity increased by over 20%, according to the operator.

Fastlink, which is majority-owned by Kuwaiti operator MTC, currently has a customer base of 900,000 subscribers in Jordan, and is anticipating that the penetration of mobile phones will more than double in the Kingdom over the next three years.

Fastlink originally launched GPRS services last year using Motorola equipment. The operator also employed the US vendor last summer to add one million telephone lines to its GSM network, in a deal valued at US$29 million.
