Iomega Corporation has unveiled a new generation of Network Attached Storage (NAS) servers — the P800m and P850m servers — that promise enterprise-level features and data security at workgroup budgets. The Windows-powered servers deliver up to 1.4 terabytes of storage capacity and are targeted at small and medium-sized businesses.

“Critical data has to be available data, and the new Iomega NAS 800 series is designed with hardware redundancy to keep data flowing 24 hours a day,” says Lim Chong Gee, director of Product Management, Iomega Pacific. “We’re excited that we were able to achieve that goal at a lower cost, directly targeting the fastest growing segment of the network storage solution market and bringing enterprise-level performance to midrange NAS customers.”

The servers not only aid in adding storage capacity to existing networks but also enable data consolidation across the network. In vertical markets such as education, health care, government, and professional services, the 800 series can be used to support data-intensive applications, improve backup and archiving practices, and lower network support costs.

“Iomega designed the P800m and P850m to reduce the workload of network managers and provide a viable platform for businesses that need to maximize their IT resources. On a price-performance basis, the new 800 series is an outstanding value for corporate departments, enterprise workgroups, and vertical markets such as education, health care, and government,” says CY Wong, product manager of Network Storage Solutions, Iomega Pacific.

The NAS P800m and P850m servers provide up to 1260 G/bytes of RAID 5 storage capacity with virtually 100% uptime, thanks to hot-swappable power supplies, fans and drives. Additional enhancements include dual 2.4GHz Intel Xeon CPUs with Hyper-Threading technology for handling more clients at a faster rate cost-effectively and dual Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) ports and dual Fast Ethernet ports with flexible configuration options.
