Saudi Telecom (STC) has gone live with its secure operation centre (SOC). The Kingdom’s incumbent operator started the project back in June 2002 when it signed up managed security services (MSS)provider, Ubizen to deploy the centre and train its personnel.

STC’s SOC, which officially opened at the start of March, is based on Ubizen’s operation centre standards and OnlineGuardian Technology. The SOC manages over 600 devices on the network, ranging from firewalls to policy management probes, authentication servers and network intrusion probes.

“Saudi Telecom is continually working to build effective relations with our customers, and part of our responsibility as we do this is to ensure their personal information is secure. We are delighted with the quick and smooth implementation of this project,” comments Sami Mulla, information security general manager, STC.

“Ubizen was selected for the project to deliver a [SOC] based on the best and latest technology available, ensuring our customers receive accessible, efficient service with the security and service they need. Training and knowledge transfer ensures [STC] is able to manage the security of our e-business activities, and the 20 people trained, [is] another way we as a company are honouring our social responsibility by building the skills and knowledge of Saudis,” Mulla adds.

As part of the project, STC has licensed Ubizen’s State & Event Analysis Machine (SEAM) engine, to track and study security events throughout the network.

The security services provider has based the SOC on its design and build-out infrastructure requirements, security policies and assistance in the recruiting, training and qualified personnel.

Although the initial implementation stage has finished, Ubizen will continue to provide the operator with security operations, expert services and Security Intelligence Lab (SIL) services.

The SOC also has provision to integrate other security devices and Ubizen’s managed security services.
