GFI is stepping up the security capabilities of its LANguard Network Security Scanner (N.S.S) solution with version 3.2 offering complete patch management to users. The network platform will provide patches and services packs remotely for all major Microsoft applications, including Office, Exchange Server, SQL Server and ISA Server.

Additionally, N.S.S also boasts improved patch checking for Internet Explorer and IIS reports GFI.

“GFI LANguard N.S.S. 3.2 offers total patch management at a fraction of the cost of other patch management solutions,” says Nick Galea, GFI CEO.

“The product's ability to deploy operating system service packs, as well as application patches and service packs, makes it the perfect companion to Microsoft Software Update Services (SUS). Together they offer greater functionality and flexibility than existing patch management software at a much better price,” he adds.

GFI also claims its N.S.S solution offers users a cost effective patch management solution, which is significantly cheaper than other offerings. According to the vendor, many patch management solutions range from US$1,500 for a 100-machine license to US$8,000 and more for a 500-machine license. However, GFI’s licenses start at US$249 for 50 IPs and Microsoft SUS included for free.

Microsoft SUS provides patch management for all Windows operating systems, however, it cannot implement service packs (SPs), NT patches and application patches/SPs. GFI claims it N.S.S offering helps to overcome these issues and enables the installation of SPs and patches, as well providing a scanning facility to check that patches have been installed correctly.
