MTN Uganda boosts mobile content

Telecoms operator MTN Uganda has boosted its mobile data offering through new content deals and an agreement with SIM technology firm Bluefish.

MTN Uganda has boosted its mobile data offering through new content deals and an agreement SIM technology firm Bluefish.

Through the deal, Bluefish has supplied MTN with 32,000 SIM cards that provide a scrolling menu on handsets, allowing users to access information and content on demand.

The operator has also used two local content providers to supply news, sport and foreign and exchange information, commodity prices, movie news, TV schedules, radio station frequencies, chat and email.

MTN, which provides both fixed and wireless coverage in Uganda, launched its 900/1800 GSM network in October 1998.

Bluefish also provides its SIM technology to MTC in Namibia, Spacefon in Ghana, Spacetel in Guinea, Benin and Burundi and Lonestar Communications in Liberia.
