Logitech is teaming up with Microsoft to provide live video delivery to MSN Messenger users. The two companies have signed a business and technology agreement, under which Logitech’s Webcam will be used to enhance communications on the messaging platform in 14 languages.

The application, which is accessible to user’s in MSN Messenger’s ‘I want to’ list, provides face-to-face, real time video capabilities. Both Microsoft and Logitech believe combining the two solutions is an obvious step in the synergy between voice, data and video communications. Logitech’s decision was also strengthened by a survey of its QuickCam customers, which revealed that 90% of them use MSN Messenger.

“As one of the leading instant messaging services in the world, MSN Messenger continues to deliver features our customers tell us will make instant messaging more valuable to them. Through our relationship with Logitech, we are adding real-time visual communication to further compliment our already rich feature set and help make the functionality easy to access and use. We believe that this enhancement will further drive the popularity of our service,” comments Raja Abburi, director of MSN Messenger at Microsoft.

“As the web camera market leader, Logitech continues to focus on broadly available applications that will increase the usage of these devices. By working with MSN to add live video to their instant messaging client, we´re making it second nature for people to use web cameras every time they use MSN Messenger. We believe video instant messaging is increasing the role of web cameras as a part of everyday life,” says Junien Labrousse, senior vice president and general manager for Logitech´s video business unit.

Webcam for MSN Messenger is initially available as an add-in for MSN Messenger 5.0 and is downloadable from http://messenger.msn.com/support/webcam.asp or http://companion.logitech.com.
