Ritz Carlton Doha has installed a wireless area network (WLAN) in its Club lounge. Visiting businessmen can request laptops off the menu to surf the web and check mail, while in the lounge.

The 374-room hotel has been embracing information technology as a core part of its guest services. Since opening in late 2001, businessmen have been able to call on the services of a ‘cyber butler’ and also rent notebooks and printers from the hotel business centre.

Speaking to ACN at the time of opening, Walid Ibrahim, regional information technology director said that IT services were a key element of modern customer service.

“Most business travellers carry laptops and they need to connect to the internet and e-mail. They also need to download files [and] work on presentations. However, some of these people will need someone nearby who is technically capable of solving any problems,” he adds.
