Another player has entered the region’s e-recruitment fray, but with the emphasis firmly on the applicant rather than the employer. In fact, DCVM.com (Dubai CV Marketing) does not even charge employers for using its service, instead charging job applicants a straight Dhs250 for the privilege.

According to Ronald Zreik, managing director for DCVM.com, the company aims to, “bring the hiring process as close to the marketing process as possible.”

DCVM does this by allowing employees to create a personal web site, hosting it for them and then marketing that personal web site and the applicant to prospective employers. The employee pays a one off charge of Dhs250 for the service and is free to go back and update their online CV as often as they like.

On the employer’s side, no money is involved at all. You sign up to the service and you then receive an Excel spreadsheet each week containing information on candidates with skills relevant to your profession. There is no charge on either side when somebody is hired as a result of using DCVM.com.

In order to do that, Zreik is promising a marketing campaign that targets candidates not only in the Middle East, but also the UK, USA, South Africa, India and the Philippines. They will be reached through online adverts and print campaigns in national newspapers. Employers in the UAE will be approached through e-mail, fax shots and face to face.

ITP.net suggested that employers might not react too well to employees posting virtual CVs on the internet, thereby advertising the fact that they might be open to job offers. Zreik said that he didn’t see it as a potential problem, adding: “There’s nothing wrong with marketing yourself. Passive candidates have to be on the lookout all the time.”
