Symantec is easing the security management tasks of enterprises with its ManHunt Smart Agent for Symantec Host IDS (intrusion detection system). The solution will enable users to manage both their host and network based IDS events with a single console.

The ManHunt product will provide administrators with enterprise-wide, real time event correlation, aggregation and analysis to help them assess the overall security of their networks.

“Because Symantec’s customers are now able to assess both their host and network intrusion detection systems at the same time with one console, they are better equipped to respond to attacks quickly, mitigating possible damage,” says Kevin Isaac, regional director, Symantec, Middle East & Africa.

“The product is designed for medium to large enterprise organisations that need to cut through the clutter of a high volume network to identify the most malicious threats,” he adds.

In practise, IT administrators can feed events from Symantec Host IDS 4.0 into ManHunt, which will then monitor and analyse these events through its administration console. ManHunt utilises protocol anomaly detection, signature detection with custom signature support, traffic state profiling and statistical flow analysis to identify intrusions and denial of service (DOS) attacks.
