US Robotics has announced that its SureConnect 9000 ADSL USB modem will now be sold through major retail outlets across the UAE, thus becoming the first ADSL modem to be made available off-the-shelf to consumers.

The SureConnect will be distributed off the shelf in Quality Computers showrooms in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Sharjah. Further retail outlets, such as Carrefour and Compume, are scheduled to retail the modems soon. This should enable users in homes and SMBs to take full advantage of the web, by furnishing them with connectivity speeds of anything from 384Kbps up to 8 mbps, depending on approved bandwidth by Etisalat.

Yusuf Syed, US Robotics’ regional sales manager, said: "As the UAE pushes to have broadband installed in every office and every home, we believe that we can play an important role in giving consumers access to state of the art, affordable solutions."
