The UAE Ministry of Education presented an award to Microsoft for its continued support to the education sector at the 16th Future Day celebrations held at Sharjah Cultural Centre. The award was handed over to Abdul Latif Almulla, general manager, Microsoft South Gulf by Dr. Ali Abdul Aziz Al Sharhan, minister of Education and Youth.

“Microsoft worldwide, as well as in this region, has a strong commitment to the student community, be it in the form of software training, discounted pricing for education software or student seminars like OpenDoor Education designed for educators as well as for students themselves,” explained Almulla. “Another important ongoing education initiative is the assistance that our Arabic localisation team provides for students working on research papers on Microsoft technology. Together with the Ministry, we are greatly encouraged to spur our efforts in continuing to assist them,” he added.

Microsoft has been working with various education institutions on individual and group levels to encourage extensive use of its platform among the younger generation. With heavy discounts, it has also urged insitutions to respect copyright laws and discouraged software piracy. Last May, the software titan signed a landmark campus agreement with the Ministry of Education that was designed to modernise the channels of delivery in the education sector.

“We can bridge the digital divide with empowering our most important resource – our youth, who are the torchbearers of tomorrow’s economy. Having said that, we are committed to helping them realise their true potential by providing them with the best level of training and constantly boost their technology related knowledge levels,” stated Almulla.
