Dubai Islamic Bank becomes the first financial institution to launch an Arabic SMS banking service in UAE

Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB) has announced the launch of the UAE’s first Arabic language SMS banking service, Al Islami Mobile banking. DIB says that the service includes some 36 unique features and allows customers to receive account information anytime, anywhere via their mobile phones.

Musabbah Mohammed Al Qaizi, manager of DIB’s IT Department, said: “We are delighted to launch this unique Arabic language SMS service, strengthening our position as a pioneering customer services oriented organisation. The move is of fundamental importance to DIB, as the majority of our client base is Arabic-speaking.”

Rashed Al Mahboob, manager of DIB’s Electronic Banking Services, added: “Al Islami Mobile banking was developed to offer easy customer registration, comprehensive banking services and dual language support for Arabic and English. The new service ensures our customer [can be] interactively updated about the latest activities on their accounts on a 24/7 basis.
"We anticipate that the service will not only enhance our existing customer’s banking experience, but also attract new customers to DIB whose first language is Arabic or English,” he added.

The service works interactively with customers at two levels: Update and Enquiry services. The Update service automatically sends SMS information to customer mobile detailing account activity based on service criteria such as Salary Credit Notification, Inward Remittance or Returned Cheque.
The Enquiry service allows for customers to request account information anytime, anywhere on their mobile phone. The bank’s customers will be able to send an SMS request to Al Islami Mobile Service Center in a prescribed format. Subsequently, SMS reply based on the service requested would be sent back to the customer. The services include: Account Balance, Last Five Transactions or Request Statement By Fax.

In addition, customers can receive SMS banking information based on the language preferred Arabic or English.

DIB customers can register for Al Islami Mobile service at any of the bank’s 16 branches across the UAE, Al Islami Al Mubasher, the bank’s telephone banking service, Al Islami Online, the bank’s internet banking service, or at any of the bank’s ATMs.
