Businesses in the Middle East can now avail of big discounts on telecom and IT purchases from thedesert.com. The e-commerce web site, targeted at businesses in the region, boasts of having more than 7,000 products, which can be shipped within one day of an order being placed.

The web site — launched by Shafique Azam, former Middle East regional manager for British telecom — is a one-stop shop for all the telecom, cabling and IT requirements of hotels, hospitals, schools, oil refineries, offices and flats in the region. Buyers can also negotiate bulk discounts on purchases made online.

“It has taken over two years and a multi-million dollar investment to launch the first fully e-commerce enabled telecoms equipment catalogue to meet the needs of the Middle East business community”, comments Azam, founder and CEO of TheDesert.com.

“Our track record, experience in telecoms, internet technology, computers, operational efficiency, readiness to implement innovative change and extensive product and service range can assist the business buyer to reduce their expenditure on high quality branded goods. We are playing a central role in influencing the way a growing number of technology goods and services are brought to the Middle East market and the manner in which relationships between suppliers and end users are managed,” he adds.

In most cases, Middle East telecoms equipment dealers stock only a few items. For larger orders, companies often have to wait for weeks before their products are delivered. With thedesert.com, time frames for delivery are said to have been brought down to a few days. So far, Azam claims to have provided networks to many of the top Arab companies and believes that more companies will turn online for better bargains and quality products.
