DIB launches Arabic SMS banking

Dubai Islamic Bank has announced the launch of the UAE’s first Arabic language Short Messaging Service (SMS) banking service: Al Islami Mobile.

Dubai Islamic Bank has announced the launch of the UAE’s first Arabic language Short Messaging Service (SMS) banking service: Al Islami Mobile banking. The service, which claims some 36 unique features, is designed to allow customers to receive account information anytime, anywhere, with their mobile phones.

“We are delighted to launch this unique Arabic language SMS service, strengthening our position as a pioneering customer services oriented organisation,” said Musabbah Mohammed Al Qaizi, Manager of DIB’s IT Department. “The move is of fundamental importance to DIB, as the majority of our client base is Arabic-speaking,” he explained.

“Al Islami Mobile banking was developed to offer easy customer registration, comprehensive banking services and dual language support for Arabic and English. The new service ensures our customer interactively get updated about the latest activities on their accounts on a 24x7 basis,” added Rashed Al Mahboob, Manager of DIB’s Electronic Banking Services.

"We anticipate that the service will not only enhance our existing customer’s banking experience, but also attract new customers to DIB whose first language is Arabic or English,” he added.

The service works interactively with customers at two levels, namely, Update and Enquiry services. While the update service automatically sends SMS information to customers detailing account activity based on criteria such as salary credit, inward remittance or returned check, the enquiry service allows you to request account information from your mobile phone.

The bank’s customers will be able to send an SMS request to Al Islami Mobile Service Center in a prescribed format. Subsequently, a SMS reply based on the service requested would be sent back to the customer. The services include: Account Balance, Last Five Transactions or Request Statement By Fax.

In addition, customers can receive SMS banking information in Arabic or English. A new feature, dubbed ‘Do Not Disturb’, can stop the service temporary but can be re-activated when required.

The new service provides you with a secure Personal Identification Number (PIN), which is initially entered to activate the SMS banking service.

DIB customers can register for Al Islami Mobile service at any of the bank’s 16 branches across the UAE, Al Islami Al Mubasher, the bank’s telephone banking service, Al Islami Online, the bank’s internet banking service, or at any of the bank’s ATMs. It will be offered to all DIB customers free-of-charge for the first three months.
