Foundry Networks is looking to capitalise on the increasing move towards Gigabit-over-Copper with the launch of a portfolio of products, which include Layer 2 and 3 switches and Layer 4-7 server load balancing switches.

Headlining the Foundry releases are the EdgeIron 24G, FastIron 3208RGC and the ServerIron 100-8G C02F. The EdgeIron model is targeted towards the mid-range enterprise market and offers 24 ports of 10/100/1000 auto sensing, 35.7 million packets per second switching performance and support for 32,000 MAC addresses and 255 active VLANs.

The switch also adheres to the 802.1q VLANs, 802.1p, 802.3ad, generic VLAN registration protocol (GVRP), and the generic multicast registration protocol (GMRP) for Layer 2 switching.

The modular Layer 2/3 FastIron switch offers uses 32 Gigabit copper 100/1000 auto-sensing ports, a redundant ready management module, jumbo frame support and wire speed access control lists. Additionally users have an option to upgrade to full Layer 3 functionality that provides multi-protocol support.

Finally for the high end data centre sector, the ServerIron model is a Layer 4-7 load balancing switch with 8 Gigabit Copper ports and 2 Gigabit fibre ports.

“Foundry's Gigabit-over-Copper initiatives are an integral part of our overall business plan to execute with fiscal discipline and product innovation,” says Bobby Johnson, president and CEO of Foundry Networks.

“With the 15th profitable quarter behind us, we continue to invest in research and development to bring best-of-breed Ethernet products to meet a range of our customer needs,” he adds.
