Batelco and Omantel are collaborating to deliver corporate data services. The PTTs have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that will, in its initial stages, provide international leased line managed data services, virtual private networks (VPNs) and e-commerce applications to businesses.

Opportunities to collaborate on the delivery of other services may be explored at a later date.

The agreement will leverage heavily on Batelco’s strategic partnership with Cable & Wireless and its series of regional subsidiaries in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan and Kuwait. Each subsidiary offers data-carrying services for business customers, with Batelco acting as a regional hub with direct connection to Cable & Wireless's global data network.

“This agreement paves the way for joint enterprise that could bring great benefits to business customers in the Gulf,” says Sameer Mooruddin, chief operating officer, Batelco.

“Both Batelco and Omantel are committed to providing the very best services to the business community in order to make them competitive in the world arena,” he adds.
