Dubai Quality Group (DQG) has introduced the Emirates Businesswomen Award 2003, an initiative designed to recognise and encourage UAE career women. Awards will be presented in smaller enterprise and larger enterprise categories to business owners/investors and professionals.

“Women in the UAE are increasingly contributing towards the corporate world by making their presence felt in fields ranging from engineering to aviation to hospitality and medicine,” said Dr Mansoor Al Awar, chairman, Dubai Quality Group.

“Through this award, outstanding UAE businesswomen and their various contributions come to the attention of the wider community as they are appreciated and valued for their efforts.”

Candidates for the award will be assessed according to five criteria: visionary leadership, future goals, professional achievements, career achievements and community contribution. Candidates’ names should be forwarded to DQG by January 30, 2003.

Oil giant Shell, the official sponsor of the Award, aims to have 20% of its senior executive positions filled by women by 2008. “Women are emerging as senior business leaders in most parts of the world and this is no less the case in the UAE," said Iain Everingham, chairman for the Shell Companies in Dubai and the Northern Emirates.
