LightPointe is taking “Flight” on its Gitex stand with the introduction of its Free Space Optics (FSO) products. Providing worldwide license free optical bandwidth ranging from 10 M/bits to 2.5 G/bits, the Flight product range is also protocol transparent and capable of integrating seamlessly into existing telecommunications infrastructure to offer connectivity through the air.

According to the vendor, the technology range is also cheaper and easier to deploy than fibre optic cabling, providing a competitive price-per-bit option.

The highlight of the Flight range is the FlightStream solution, which is designed for mobile wireless tower installations and affords scalable bandwidth from T1/E1 up to 52 M/bits/s and 155 M/bits/s.

“There is great demand for telecommunications network infrastructure in the Middle East, but like the rest of the world, not always a strong economic case to trench fibre optic cable or purchase spectrum for lower bandwidth microwave solutions,” says Cathal Oscolai, managing director, LightPointe Europe GmbH.
