Almasa Distribution is officially launching its new networking solutions division at Gitex 2002. The networking division is intended to provide value-added services to resellers and integrators in the Middle East region, with vendors including 3Com, Acelink, Blue Coat Systems, Exinda Networks, Extreme Networks, Huawei, Hubbell and Mitel.

DK Roy, manager of the networking division, explained that Almasa aims to help customers to grow: “By giving our customers a sales and technical support resource dedicated to integrated networking solutions, we can help them identify, develop and grow the opportunities now emerging right across the market,” he said.

To demonstrate its new networking credentials and the products in its portfolio, Almasa is running a live network on its stand. The division is staffed by a number of networking professionals from around the region, and will be offering this expertise to customers through support, design, deployment and consultancy services.

A network lab at Almasa’s Dubai headquarters will provide a proof of concept centre for network solutions. The company also plans to take the network lab to the web, by extending it into a secure extranet that partners can access. This will enable them to submit network images to Almasa engineers via the web, and to collaborate on solving problems.

“The network lab provides a proof of concept — a protected environment for testing and simulation. We also offer factory approved testing on behalf of select vendors,” Roy added.
