The Showtime digital television network has fired the latest shot in the running battle for viewers’ hearts and cash in the burgeoning Middle East Pay TV market. The Dubai-based operation has announced four days of free TV later this month, describing it as “four days of premium programming for all the family to enjoy.”

The special preview period from Tuesday October 15 through Friday October 18 inclusive is available free of charge to all households across the Middle East with a digital satellite dish directed at the NileSat satellite.

“By tuning in to the SHOW preview channel, viewers will be able to sample the high quality, exclusive programming available on the Showtime network,” explained Cliff Nelson, senior vice president, marketing and sales, Showtime.

He continued: “Showtime delivers the best in world television entertainment and all programming is sub-titled in Arabic. There is something for all the family to enjoy, including Mums, Dads, children, teenagers, sports and movies fans.”

Highlights of the four day preview period include a documentary following life Inside The Space Shuttle on Discovery Channel, and a profile of the Great Egyptian: Ramses The Great, on Discovery Civilisation.

All day Friday features a Mega Movie Marathon including a selection of family films like The Real Macaw, Little Bigfoot and MVP: Most Valuable Primate. Evening viewing is packed with the blockbusters Legionnaire, What Women Want and Traffic. All movies on Showtime are uninterrupted by advertising and carry Arabic subtitles.

Sports fans can look forward to a selection of scintillating action including the 2002 UEFA Champions League Final between Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen, world beach volleyball finals and Dutch league soccer featuring Ajax Amsterdam.

Kids will be entertained by the Disney feature films The Lion King – Timon & Pumbaa and Dinosaur, and Merlin featuring an all-star cast on Hallmark.

The preview period also includes a special episode of MTV Mashaweer, the first Arabic music show from MTV, and an opportunity to see this year’s MTV Video Music Awards.

“Showtime packs every viewing hour with something for all the family and this four day free preview sample of our full line up will be a big hit with television viewers in the region,” said Nelson. “We hope that once the entire family has a taste of Showtime they will become regular viewers.”
