Egypt’s hotel, retail, convention centre and office complex, Citystars, is deploying Avaya’s Systimax GigaSPEED and OptiSPEED cabling solutions to provide its communications infrastructure. Over 2000 km of copper cabling and 20 km of fibre cabling is being laid throughout the complex to supply 50,000 communication outlets.

”Communication is a central part of our lives. We want to ensure Citystars’ tenants and guests have cutting edge services, which keep them globally connected. To achieve this we needed a single end-to-end solution that met our communication demands today and beyond. The Systimax solution gives us the flexibility to ensure our technology offering keeps pace with global developments,” says Sheikh Sharbalty, joint owner of Citystars.

The infrastructure is being put in place to facilitate the rollout of IP telephony, broadband internet connections, satellite TV and video-on-demand services to Citystars’ tenants.

Avaya’s GigaSPEED solution provides the horizontal cabling that connects the offices, shops, apartments and hotel rooms, providing 250 MHz communications bandwidth. While the OptiSPEED solution is being deployed in the network backbone to carry data at speeds up to 100 G/bits/s.

“To date the most challenging cable application has been the broadband video service. This has had to be carried by copper cabling over distances of 100 metres,” comments Ehab El-Kanary, country manager, connectivity solutions, Avaya Egypt.
