Emirates Internet and Multimedia (EIM) the ISP division of Etisalat, has announced an upgrade to its web-hosting services. It offers greater flexibility in the storage capacity, richer multimedia content hosting and sites with domain names .ae for the first time, upgraded databases for improved data storage and management of information and managed e-mail.

“Research from the Aberdeen Group shows that by 2004, 70% of the world’s small to medium sized companies will use some kind of hosting facility,” commented Maroua Naim, general manager, EIM.

“The Middle East has a powerful consumer and business base. Global and regional companies are starting to realise that the best way to reach many of their customers in the 21st century is through the Internet. By offering the best in web-hosting services, companies of any size and Internet requirement, as well as individuals, are now able to host web sites close to their customers in the region.”

The company says that hosting web sites close to the target audience is an important factor in decisions on choosing a host because using servers and networks based in Europe or the US can lead to degraded web site performance.

Abdulla Hashim, senior manager, business development & sales, said: “We have the best infrastructure with which to access the Middle East’s Internet users. Our new hosting packages ensure companies and individuals can host their web sites close to the customer, significantly reducing time and often cost by eliminating dependency on other networks.”
