At Gitex the recently merged HP is promising to flex its muscles as it brings upwards of 50 products to the show, coving just about everything from big iron servers to handheld devices. The vendor is pushing its two key themes during the five day show — wireless and digital imaging.

“Gitex is always a popular launch pad for new products and technologies and 2002 will be no exception. The ‘new HP’ will have a solid presence at the event and it will introduce a wealth of exciting products at the show,” says Joseph Hanania, general manager, HP Middle East.

“We will be showcasing a combined handheld PC/GSM phone that is GPRS-ready and a similar product with Arabic features. The market in this region is ripe for such innovative solutions and we will use Gitex to introduce an entire range of new products that meet the demands of a population that is keen to access powerful, portable solutions,” he adds.

New HP consists of four business units — enterprise systems group (ESG), personal systems group (PSG), imaging & printing (IPG) and services group (GSG).

In addition, the newly formed computing heavyweight is going to be pushing its range of systems management software, high end servers, some ‘enriching’ digital cameras and photo printing solutions.
There is also going to be the usual selection of printers that show visitors have come to expect from HP.

“With more than US$80 billion dollars in total sales in 2001, the newly merged organisation is eager to flex its muscles in a big way at Gitex. The new HP is more than three times the size of its nearest competitor and it offers a huge end-to-end solution range,” comments Hanania.

HP is also touting its reinforced services business during the show. The solutions village will showcase the consultancy and services capabilities of HP.
