NEC is using this year’s show to break into the regional server market. The hardware player is rolling out a server targeted at small to medium business (SMBs) and simultaneously hunting for more partners over the course of the show.

“The new product is part of our aggressive strategy designed to double our regional market share by 2004. Coupled with a Mid East-wide reseller network expansion plan, we aim to establish NEC CI amongst the top five major players in every regional market,” says Lenia Iacovides, managing director, InterFrontiers, the regional business development unit (RBDU) of NEC CI.

“Since January this year, when InterFrontiers was appointed as the RBDU for NEC CI in the Middle East, Balkans, Mediterranean and Africa, we have created a comprehensive enterprise reseller regional network for NEC CI, consisting of 15 channel representatives across the GCC. At Gitex, we will meet with new potential partners in our drive to establish a regional network, with consumer and enterprise reseller appointments across the Middle East and Africa,” says Iacovides.

NEC CI supplies the enterprise market with the NEC brand and the consumer market with the Packard Bell brand. Its regional business mix consists of 75% desktops, 20% laptops and 5% servers.

In addition to the server launch, NEC CI’s Gitex strategy includes promoting the company’s NEC M300 notebook. Its NEC desktop series ML4/VL4/ML5 and Europe’s lightest and thinnest pocket PC (PDA) will also be on display at Al Yousuf’s stand in hall four.

At the show, NEC CI will also team up with Intel to showcase NEC’s wireless solution.
