Citystars Heliopolis Cairo has implemented an end-to-end local area network (LAN) and IP telephony solution from Cisco throughout its hotel, office, commercial and residential complex.

Working with Cisco’s local partner, Tri-Tech Egypt, Citystars has deployed a campus infrastructure that supports Cisco’s AVVID (architecture for voice, video & integrated data) throughout the complex.

An IP telephony solution has also been installed, while a connection has been established between the property management systems and Cisco’s Call Manager PBX software, which facilitates the delivery of hotel, hospitality and guest services.

“To compete effectively in today’s commercial property business and attract premier investors, Citystars’ management must be able to respond to customer demands quickly and efficiently,” says Sheikh Abdulrahman Sharbatly, chairman of Golden Pyramids Plaza, SAE, part of the Citystars complex.

“We are convinced that our partnership with Cisco for such a significant project will ensure that we can provide a first class network with a full complement of services that will satisfy all our tenants’ requirements,” he adds.

The LAN will be based on Cisco’s Catalyst 6500 and Catalyst 3500 switches, while the IP telephony solution is developed around the vendor’s Call Manager MCS 7835 solution with 14,000 IP phones provided for users.

“Citystars Heliopolis is a unique project for Cisco because it integrates living space, offices, shopping, entertainment and hotel facilities within one complex served by a single network infrastructure,” comments Yasser Elkady, Cisco’s regional manager for Egypt & North Africa.

“Despite intense competition, Cisco offered the ‘best fit’ solution as the only vendor to offer an IP telephony solution integrated with a data network rather than a legacy PBX approach,” he adds.

The Citystars complex will incorporate three hotels, a conference centre, residential apartments, offices and a shopping & entertainment centre.
