256 ‘cyber athletes’ from the UAE will be competing in the LG Cyber Cup between October 14 and 16. Staged at Deira’s City Centre mall, entrants will face three grueling days of qualifying before 24 players progressing to the Cyber Cup finals.

The player with the most flexible thumbs will be competing for a share of US$25,000 worth of digital prizes, including MP3s, mobile phones, LCD monitors and multi-media PCs.

Entrants to the competition will play a number of games, including Half Life: Counter Strike and Microsoft’s Age of Empires II. Run by consultants and electronic gaming industry experts from Game Frontier and LG Electronics, the LG Cyber Cup is part of the electronics giant’s Gitex marketing drive.

"We are very excited about the LG Cyber Cup, which will run according to international rules," says P.C. Choi, managing director, LG Electronics Gulf FZE.

"Computer gaming is becoming popular in the UAE and the rest of the Middle East. This tournament will be the most entertaining event of its type for gamers and spectators," he adds.
