Hydrocarbon exploration and production company, Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), has extended the functionality of its intranet with the addition of a news aggregation service from ABQ Zawya. Live since the beginning of September, the solution has been deployed to keep senior management up to date with the latest news from the region’s oil & gas industry.

ABQ Zawya customised the solution to meet PDO’s needs and integrate it with the company’s existing intranet services, which include departmental communications and internal news, such as management circulars.

“They [ABQ Zawya] offered news content from Arabian sources, so we had exactly what we wanted for a reasonable price. After dialogue between the IT teams we created two basic web page templates that allowed Zawya to distribute content over our intranet,” explains Gregory Greenwill, head of corporate communications at PDO.

“We developed the framework of the page, so now we have channels devoted to the Oman oil & gas industry, the regional oil & gas industry, Shell in the Middle East and one about the Oman economy in general” he adds.

The ability to access up to date information on the oil & gas industry is key for PDO’s senior management. “They want to be abreast of the latest information because they do not want to attend a meeting at the ministry of oil & gas, for example, and hear about things they do not have any prior knowledge of,” comments Greenwill.
