This GITEX, Panasonic has an entirely unexpected offering to unveil. Lie back, relax and bring it on: the eSEAT is landing on local sands. Consisting of a huge, fully reclinable seat and wooden cabinets that house various electronic equipment, the eSEAT “is Panasonic’s answer to the need for converged entertainment and communication systems,” according to Atsushi Hinoki, general manager of advertising and PR for Panasonic Middle East.

“The eSEAT practically eliminates the need to have so many different entertainment devices by integrating advanced audio, video, communication, security and relaxation systems within the confines of the specially designed seat.” And this throne is rightly teched to the tooth. Provided are no less than a full 50 inches of plasma viewing, a videophone, 15 inch LCD, VCR, DVD-RAM player, hard disk recorder and internet/email facilities. That’s just to cover work and media entertainment.

For full body relaxation, the chair delivers compressed air massage, vibrating leg massage and seat heating. An optional security system, including an indoor/outdoor surveillance camera, is also available. This is matched with an electronic locking system and a panic button (“SOS! Out of popcorn!”?) Anyone stinging to sink into the calfskin will be able to place a customised order with Panasonic this GITEX.
