The girls and boys at Creative — the sound card legend and, more recently, digital audio guru supreme — have come up trumps again. This time the MP3 player has been hybridised, but there’s no attached camera or mobile phone in sight.

On the contrary, Creative has constructed an MP3/WMA player-cum-USB storage device so compact it fits nicely on a key chain, the Nomad MuVo.

An ideal size and weight for sports and surreptitious listening, the unit has surprising storage capability. 64MB and 128MB versions are available (approximately US$130 and $170, respectively) — in the case of a 128MB unit, that means up to 88 times the storage space of a floppy disk.

But all that memory needn't be used strictly for music. Half the beauty of this digital pixie is that it also provides a great way to store and transfer all manner of files, without having to fuss about with cables.

The MuVo is recognised just like any removable, solid state hard disk, so files can be written and transferred with a simple drag and drop. Consisting of two parts — USB storage device and music player — the unit slides apart for easy plug-in and, for notebook owners, it’s an especially inspired option.

Creative has planned a range of MuVo accessories that will soon be available. Stay posted at www.nomadworld.com.
