The need for integration technologies is going to fuel the growth of the XML server market for the next five years. According to IDC, the XML server market will reach US$3.5 billion in revenues by 2006. The XML server market racked up staggering 163.8% growth rate between 2000 and 2001.

“Vendors that can commit to the development of XML-related solutions will now be well positioned to take advantage of new opportunities with customers as business conditions improve,” says Susan Funke, research manager for IDC’s Java and XML for e-business service.

“The fact that the market grew so well in 2001, even with IT budget constraints, is testament that the XML server market will be a strong competitive landscape over the forecast period,” she adds.

The XML server market consists of several categories, including XML-enabled databases, native XML database servers, XML application servers, and XML content servers.

According to the analyst house, XML-enabled databases and server solutions will begin to impact the XML server market by 2003 and will maintain rapid growth, resulting in the relation database market becoming the dominant market for XML servers by 2006.
