Intel is bringing its war on RISC processors to Gitex. The chip giant is going to demonstrate the computing power of its next generation 64-bit processor, Itanium 2.

Multinational and Arabic independent software vendors are joining Intel to showcase their applications on a collection of machines running different Intel processors.

Demos will be given on Pentium 4 desktop and mobile chips, Xeon server processors and Itanium 2 processors. Special attention is also being given to the recently launched Pentium 4 2.8 GHz chip.

The applications being showcased include Arabic Quark Express, Abode’s Photoshop, various games, multimedia, broadband internet and small to medium sized business applications from Autodesk.
There will also be a display of remote server management on Intel’s Xeon 32-bit powered server. Kuwait’s Al Sahr’s Arabic Voice Portal, Egypt’s Link.Net’s model billing system and automotive design will all be used to demo the Itanium 2 architecture.

Intel will also be using Gitex to educate the local market about some of the key technology trends in various vertical industries. Intel’s local office team is going to be on hand to answer questions on IT in oil & gas, finance and banking, telecommunications, wireless, government, education, sales and distribution channel, marketing and general management.
