James Thomson, president of the RAND Corporation and executive vice president Michael Rich informed ITP, publisher of Arabian Business magazine, on August 23, 2002 that RAND was unaware of Laurent Murawiec’s comments until ITP reported them on www.ITP.net (August 22).

Thomson said: “The comments on the tape recording on the website ITP.net are offensive and repugnant, and RAND repudiates them in the strongest terms. RAND was unaware of these comments until they were reported by ITP.net.”

Rand’s statement comes after Arabian Business, said in a statement on August 22, that "it stands by its story ('Potent words, softly spoken, rock US-Saudi relations'), and is making the tape of the interview, plus a transcript, available to the media and regional governments."
