Oracle and Dell are expected to announce a new partnership on Monday. The deal should help the software company boost its sales of e-business software.

The two companies will announce tomorrow that Dell customers will be offered Oracle’s application server software. This technology enables e-business and Web-based transactions.

According to Gartner Group, Oracle is currently third in the bundled application server market behind IBM and BEA. Analysts believe that the deal should allow the company to expand its current 12% share and threaten the leading two.

"The challenge for Oracle is to try to sell its application server (software), not to Oracle shops, but to new accounts, so the Dell partnership will help them there," analyst, Shawn Willett of Current Analysis told Cnet news.

Traditionally a database management software vendor, Oracle has turned to the application server market to boost is sales figures. The company bundles in a number features with it application server, including portal software.
