Intertec Systems tackles security

As the Middle East continues to take a reactive approach to IT security, Intertec Systems has unveiled a dedicated security division to solve the region's problems.

Although most organisations are aware of the need for IT security, the majority of local companies continue to operate reactive implementation strategies and only approach consultants and vendors once the damage has been done. Such an approach means that businesses continue to experience down time and can never be 100% confident that their IT systems are secure.

“Right now, most companies only come to us after they have had some kind of attack on their systems, whether it be a denial of service or lots of Spam e-mails,” says Ranjit Ramakrishnan, product manager at Intertec Systems.

In an attempt to rectify the situation, Intertec has established an IT security specific division called Secure IT Professional Services (SIPS). The division will not only educate users in the UAE but also offer the consultation and implementation services Ramakrishnan says the region so badly needs.

Initially, SIPS will target verticals such as banking, oil & gas and government. With regard to the latter, Ramakrishnan says education is the key because the “UAE market today is filled with insecurity and doubt.”

“It is an educational campaign with government and we are doing a lot of work shops with them to build up their knowledge of IT security,” he adds.

According to the product manager, even those users that believe they have ensured the integrity of their systems should take note as security threats continue to appear and evolve on a daily basis.

“What we are telling customers is that even though they might have the best security products in the world they are not secure until a consultant has come in and drilled down through their systems to identify any vulnerabilities and to ensure that you have everything configured properly,” comments Ramakrishnan.

While the message is far from new, SIPS believes that it can deliver superior security solutions due to its expertise across the entire IT infrastructure, whether it be the network, hardware or software.

“In security projects you need expertise in both the networking and computing side because you need to find the loopholes in the network, the applications, the databases and the operating system. Over the years we have built up this experience,” says Ramakrishnan.

“Furthermore, we have relationships with the leading players in the security market, such as Cisco and ISS and can offer customised security solutions that are created by our own developers. This allows us to provide the best security solutions possible to out customers. Essentially, we are a single stop shop for security solutions,” he adds.
