Computer Associates and storage infrastructure company Brocade have announced a closer working partnership to aid customers with data back up. The two companies already have a technical relationship to develop SAN management solutions, but have now carried out interoperability testing and released joint technical manuals.

Following interoperability testing on each other’s products, CA has awarded Brocades 1 and 2Gbps SAN infrastructure solutions as ‘ca smart’, a certification to indicate value and technical excellence in CA compatible products. The hardware that has been certified as ca smart for BrightStor, ARCserve and BrightStor Enterprise Backup includes Brocade’s fabric switches, the SilkWorm 2400, 2800 and 3800.

In return Brocade has appointed CA’s BrightStor Enterprise Backup and BrightStor ARCserve as ‘Fabric Aware’, a certification that indicates suitability for use in heterogeneous SAN environments.

The two have also completed work on two technical solution guides, aimed to help enterprise customers with server-free data backup solutions.

“Business continuance is a critical issue for Middle East enterprises, as data volumes expand and mission-critical applications come under increased pressure from systems administrators. Together, CA and Brocade can help regional businesses to back-up data and protect valuable assets more effectively,” said Abdul Aziz Al-Salloum, managing director of Computer Associates Middle East operations.

“Brocade and CA are working together to simplify SAN management and optimize business critical applications, such as data backup, for Brocade SAN infrastructure,” said Jeffrey Brooks, Brocade chief marketing officer. “As SANs become the ubiquitous infrastructure for business-critical storage applications and services, continuing to expand the management capabilities of the storage networking platform is crucial to enabling ‘always-on’ information for the business.”
