Storage specialist EMC has announced a strategic partnership with Accenture to drive its recently formed storage consultancy arm. Planned as a separate entity from its professional services arm, which focuses exclusively on EMC products, the Information Solutions Consulting group will be platform independent.

“We are developing an open, platform-independent services strategy that will complement EMC’s delivery of the world’s most open networked storage solutions,” said Joseph Walton, EMC senior vice president, Global Services. “Just as EMC is creating platform-independent software through the AutoIS strategy, we are now developing a full range of consulting services for heterogeneous storage environments,” he added.

EMC pointed out that the market for storage services is set to grow from $2.8 billion in 2001 to $4 billion by 2005, according to IDC, and that there is no clear cut market leader at present.

“Storage networking environments are growing larger and more complex,” said Dr. Kevin McIsaac, programme director, Server Infrastructure Strategies at analyst firm META Group. “Increasingly, organisations are looking for services specific to the people, processes and technology in their information storage infrastructure.”

“This new initiative will provide EMC customers in the Middle East with quantifiable measurements through business analysis of their organisation’s entire storage infrastructure and operation,” said Wael Al Nadi, Professional Services Engagement manager- Middle East.

“Our agreement with Accenture will help grow, scale and transform a segment of our professional services organisation into a best-in-class provider of storage consulting, and is a natural extension of our existing capabilities in the region,” he added.
