HP has suspended 150 employees and contractors in Britain and Ireland and sacked two for “misuse of the company e-mail.”

The company didn’t comment in detail on the reason for the clampdown, but it was suspected to be connected to pornography and tasteless jokes.

In a statement reported on Silicon.com. the company said that the fate of the full-time employees would be decided after an internal investigation.

"HP takes any allegations of the misuse of corporate resources extremely seriously and has acted swiftly to initiate an internal investigation. Once the results of the investigation are available, HP will, where necessary, apply its standard disciplinary process and take appropriate action,” the company said.

Jim Kent, general manager for HP in the UK & Ireland, told Reuters that so far two employees in Scotland had been fired. However, he added that the company considered the matter to solely be a company violation, not a criminal matter.
