Batelco has announced plans to enable business people travelling through Bahrain International Airport to access their e-mail and the Internet wirelessly.

The scheme will use wi-fi technology to provide radio coverage to the entire airport, giving laptop computers a connection to the Internet without a cable or phone-socket.

The plan was revealed today when Batelco chief executive Andy Hearn performed the official opening of the company’s new Customer Sales and Service Centre (CSC) at Bahrain Airport.

He said: “Our plan to provide wi-fi at Bahrain Airport will be an enormous boost to the nation as word spreads throughout the world’s business community. Business people on the move have a desperate need for just this kind of ‘enabling’ facility when they jet into, or out of, a country like Bahrain.

“I think it is significant that today is Batelco’s 21st anniversary, because this ‘wi-fi’ plan is part of the continuing story of how Batelco is building an ‘intelligent Kingdom’ in Bahrain, using its expertise in info-communications.”
