Xybernaut, the wearable computing company that wowed electronics fairs and industry with the futuresque poma (personal optical mobile assistant), has announced that it has struck a deal with Hilton Hotels and Resorts to provide the hospitality giant with Xybernaut Mobile Assistant wearable computers.

The deployment of this technology will allow concierges and other staff employed in customer service to provide check-in, check-out and other hotel services to guests wherever and whenever is most convenient for the guest.

The Mobile Assistant V (MA V) wearable PCS utilised in this mobile solution — serviced by Datanamics — are configured for wireless network connectivity, they are rugged, fully functional and super-lightweight. Each unit is equipped with a touch screen LCD, body-worn printer, mobile credit card processing equipment and room key encoder, and is directly integrated with the property management system.

It is hoped that the roving staff members, empowered by MA Vs, will speed up the check-in process, be equipped to provide superior assistance to guests with information that is available all times and in all places, and deliver convenient service from the poolside to the elevator.

“The use of Xybernaut’s MA V wearable computers by Hilton Hotels is another example of mainstream industry realising the applicability and ROI benefits of wearable computing,” said JB Rauch, vice president of sales and marketing for Xybernaut. The MA Vs have also been used in Porsche team racing.
