The Emirates Group has chosen to standardise its laptop fleet with Fujitsu Siemens Computers’ (FSC) Lifebook S series. The move is part of a wider upgrade to the group’s mobile IT operations by Mercator, the Emirates Group’s IT division.

The Emirates Group, which includes Emirates Airline, Dnata and a number of other divisions, is expected to replace all AST laptops and Compaq Armada 1592 models with the new FSC notebooks during the current year.

“The Emirates Group has always prided itself on providing the best services to its clients, customers and staff alike,” said Keith Gillespie, customer service and support manager IT, Mercator. “The decision to standardise our laptops with the Lifebook S-Series from Fujitsu Siemens was taken after careful deliberation of the available choices to see which brand would best fit the required demands.”

“Its stylish yet hardworking image fits in well with the image of our group, which is well known for its progressive policies," continued Gillespie.

"What makes it most attractive however, is that with a weight of 1.71 kgs, the S-series is the lightest machine in its class. The notebooks are one kilogram lighter than the ones currently being used by Emirates.”

First to get to grips with the new notebooks are the sales staff of the Emirates Group, in time for their 2002 Global Sales Conference.

“The image of laptops has changed considerably in the recent past, and professionals today are looking for machines that can not only deliver the maximum but also look elegant and stylish,” said Jacquie Carson, sales and marketing director, Gulf Region, FSC.

“This prestigious order will spur us to chase more aggressively our goal of becoming the leading player in the computer industry of the region," added Carson. "In just 14 months after opening the Dubai office, Fujitsu Siemens Computers is among the top four IT vendors in the region.”

The Lifebook series S notebook boasts a bright 13.3” TFT screen, DVD Combo Drive and a magnesium alloy casing. A Port Replicator enables a user to attach an external keyboard and mouse whilst navigating the network in the office.

The S series is powered by Intel’s mobile Pentium III 800 MHz processor-M, complete with SpeedStep technology. Security features include a shock protected hard drive, an integrated SmartCard reader and FSC’s mobile manageability tools.
