International Turnkey Systems (ITS) has completed its infrastructure and back up implementation for Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB). The comprehensive system includes full redundancy achieved through a back up site in Sharjah that mirrors every transaction that takes place on the bank’s books. It should ensure that customer’s account information is completely secure at all times.

“ITS is delighted to have partnered with ADIB to make their goal of a complete core banking and disaster recovery solution a reality. The bank’s investment in this initiative demonstrates its importance – not from an IT perspective, but from a business continuance perspective,” said Khalid Al Saied, general manager of ITS.

As well as duplicating all transactions online every minute, the main banking systems in the head office are also mirrored in Sharjah so they can be shifted without any loss of service should there be a total system loss in Abu Dhabi.

“The successful completion of this project provides ADIB customers with continuous banking services and eliminates the possibility of service disruptions for any reason. With the new information age, systems availability around the clock has become an indispensable need for any modern bank,” said Adel Al Zarouni, ADIB vice president, IT division.

Zarouni continued that the policy of choosing systems that cause the minimum disruption to customers has been in place since ADIB was founded and that the days of service stopping for an ‘end of day’ counting process are now long gone.

The system runs UNIX on a Sun server cluster, an unusual choice according to Zarouni. It also includes a software package called SNDR to allow ATMs and branches to communicate seamlessly with head office or the back up site, Zarouni added.
