Toshiba signs SMS to be Jordanian distributor

The company will be Jordan’s only distributor of Toshiba notebooks and it hopes to get Toshiba to the number one in terms of market share in the country.

Toshiba has appointed the SMS group as its Jordan distributor for notebooks. The company will be Jordan’s only distributor of Toshiba notebooks and it hopes to get Toshiba to the number one in the country with ‘aggressive marketing’.

"As Jordan makes the transition to mobile computing, we believe Toshiba’s innovative products and solutions will enable Jordanian companies experience unprecedented levels of productivity and flexibility in their operations,” said Maher Mouasher, CEO of SMS.

In 1998 notebooks comprised just three per cent of the market in Jordan. That figure is now apparently five per cent and SMS expects it to reach something like 25% within three years and wants to drive the growth with Toshiba. Toshiba itself has gained a market share of 25%, according to SMS’ statement, in a period of eighteen months.

Part of Toshiba’s strategy has been to move control of the Middle East region to its European headquarters in Germany, so shortening the length of its supply chain to a market it is focusing on as one with great growth potential.

“We are confident that the distribution partnership with SMS will take us to the market leader position in Jordan very quickly,” said Ahmed Khalil, Toshiba’s regional sales manager. “Our mobile computers have proven technological superiority, and with SMS’s commitment to full service support we have the ideal combination to meet the needs of the Jordanian market,” he added.

SMS will offer a three year international warranty on all Toshiba’s products and has had two technical staff certified at Toshiba’s factory in Germany.
