Vertscape, a provider of e-business solutions, has announced the opening of a technical support and service centre in India. Based in Mumbai, the aim of the centre is to leverage the low cost of highly skilled labour in India. The company also hopes that the centre will provide a springboard for expansion into Europe and the US.

“India has become internationally acknowledged as a power base, and this step will give Vertscape access to that vast expertise with little or no movement of staff from India to the Gulf,” said Chirag Patel, business development director, Vertscape.

Patel added that the company would enjoy the combined benefits of India’s “deep IT expertise” and the “superb infrastructure in the UAE” to create a base that would allow the company’s planned growth in a “highly feasible and scalable manner”.

Vertscape cites the examples of General Electric and Dell who have set up operations in India, including General Electric’s 3000 seat customer care centre. According to a Kellogg School of Management study Vertscape quotes; while knowledge and expertise are prime requirements for business today, the location of that knowledge is irrelevant.

The office’s functions are varied and include system configuration, customer support and customisation as well as R&D. It will also involve working on the company’s eXtended enterprise Relationship Management (XeRM) solution. Vertscape intends to use the centre to continue developing the XeRM solution suite for customers.

“The Mumbai office is staffed by some of the finest and most skilled IT professionals in India. The advantage of utilising this pool of manpower, minus the cost of relocating them is that our clients will be able to get the highest standards of service at attractive costs,” added Patel.
