UAE Ministry of Higher Education signs agreement with Microsoft

Campus agreement between UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Microsoft will enable 25,000 users to use the vendor's latest technologies and avail of an 80% discount on its products.

25,000 students from the Higher Colleges of Technology, Zayed University and the UAE University will benefit from a landmark campus agreement signed between the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Microsoft Gulf. The agreement will enable staff and students at the three colleges to use Microsoft technologies such as Windows XP, Office XP, Microsoft Encarta, Microsoft FrontPage and Visual Studio. Students and staff can also avail of an overall price reduction of up to 80% on Microsoft products.

The agreement was signed by the UAE minister of higher education and scientific research HH Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, and Orlando Ayala, group vice-president for worldwide sales, marketing and services, Microsoft. “The main objective of the three government universities is to provide all the means and ways of developing academic courses and programmes to achieve greater results and improve academic services offered by the institutes of society,” stated HH Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan. “Such cooperation and agreements with companies and international corporations indicate the importance of preserving intellectual property rights and ensures appropriate usage of technology”.

Speaking on the occasion was also Orlando Ayala who commended the UAE Ministry of Education “for taking this pioneering initiative in investing in the future of the country by harnessing the potential of technology.” He added that Microsoft was also committed to supporting this vision. “Moving forward, Microsoft will continue to have a strong focus on the education field and any effort to bridge the digital divide begins with empowering our most important resource — our youth, who will be tomorrow’s leaders,” he added.
